What is the most frazzled, chaotic time of your day? I’m guessing it might be the morning rush hour.  Not the one in traffic: The one in your house. Getting organized could make a big dent in that morning stress, so here are a guest author’s ideas to help you get started:

The craziest time of day for parents is that early time in the morning trying to get kids out the door to school. Making sure they are fed, dressed, and have all their school stuff can be overwhelming. It does not have to be this way. A few tips can help to alleviate some of this stress.

The night before is a great time to soften the impending chaos of the morning. Choose some of the tasks that do not have to wait until morning. These probably include  making lunches and setting out clothes. [And, remember,] school-age kids are old enough to take on some of these responsibilities.

If you are on a tight schedule, school days are not the time for a three-course hot breakfast. Save that for the weekend. Stock up on easy to prepare breakfast meals such as cereal, yogurt, nuts, and breakfast bars.

One of the biggest time killers for a family is the television. If it is turned on, kids will become distracted and glued to watching it. This will adversely affect your chances of getting out of the house on time.

Once the kids have stayed on track and gotten ready – including having all of their stuff ready to go and having eaten- you can decide if they can hit the sofa and watch a little television before it’s time to go.

Children need a spot chosen for them to place their stuff when they get home from school. Otherwise they will just be prone to dump it on the floor when they get home and then you can’t find it the next morning. This bit of organization can be a life saver for your sanity and time.

Now that you have designated a space for the kids’ items, you will want to make sure that space is used the best in can be. Proper sized hooks and a place like a hallway for coats and jackets will help. Baskets to hold smaller items will help the child find his school identification card, lunch card, and keys in the morning.

The stress of the morning rush can be almost overwhelming, but with a little organization and preparation, it won’t be for you.
